What is Omegaverse?
The Omegaverse is a biological and social system where people are born with a secondary gender: Alpha, Omega, or Beta. This secondary gender exists alongside a person's first gender and affects anatomy, instincts, pheromones, attraction, and hormonal cycles.
Alpha
Alphas are typically considered the dominant secondary gender. Standard Alphas possess a penis with a knot regardless of their first gender. They are strongly driven by instinct, territorial behavior, and pheromonal influence. Alphas experience rut cycles, during which their libido, possessiveness, and need to claim or protect a partner intensify.
Beta
Betas remain biologically unchanged. They do not experience heats or ruts and cannot smell or distinguish Alpha or Omega pheromones. Betas are unable to tell when someone is in cycle unless informed directly.
Omega
Omegas are often viewed as the weaker or more submissive secondary gender. Standard Omegas possess a vagina regardless of their first gender. They are emotionally sensitive, highly affected by pheromones, and strongly oriented toward bonding. Omegas experience heat cycles, during which their desire for intimacy, closeness, and protection increases.
Recessive Alpha
Recessive Alphas retain Alpha instincts, pheromones, and the ability to enter rut, but their genitalia remains linked to their first gender. They only have a penis if they were born with one (AMAB). No genital change occurs.
Recessive Omega
Recessive Omegas retain Omega traits such as pheromones, emotional sensitivity, and heat cycles, but their genitalia remains linked to their first gender. They only have a vagina if they were born with one (AFAB). No genital change occurs.
The Four Phases
Living With a Cycle
Heats typically arrive every few months, though frequency varies by individual, age, and health.
Environment matters — stress, proximity to an Alpha, and even pheromone exposure from others can shift the timing or intensity of a cycle.
Many Omegas use suppressants to manage or delay heats, particularly in workplaces or seasons where an unplanned heat would be difficult.
By Role
The Golden Rule
Every woman in this world is born an Alpha, Beta, or Omega — designation describes her biology and instincts, not her identity.
Love, courtship, and bonding happen only between women here, across any pairing of designations.
Knotting
A biological lock that occurs during mating, usually initiated by an Alpha. It ties a pair together for a period of time and is believed to deepen the emotional connection between mates.
Mating Marks
A bite placed at the junction of neck and shoulder during mating. It marks a bonded pair to others and, in many tellings, links the pair's scent and wellbeing to one another.
Soul Bonds
Also called fated mates. A rarer, near-mythic bond where two people are drawn to each other by scent and instinct alone, said to be recognizable the moment they meet.
Even in a world ruled by instinct, courting still matters — gifts, gestures of protection, and time spent earning trust are common before any bond is made.
Consent remains central to most Omegaverse storytelling: instinct may pull two people together, but choice is what makes a bond meaningful.
Pheromones
Each designation carries a distinct scent profile, and pheromones can shift with emotion, stress, illness, or arousal. They're powerful enough to influence mood and attraction between people nearby.
Suppressants & Scent Blockers
Medication used to delay or dull heat, rut, and scent output. Widely used for work, school, or public life, though many stories explore side effects or the cost of relying on them long-term.
Rut (Alphas)
The Alpha counterpart to heat. Marked by heightened aggression, focus, and a strong drive to claim or protect the woman she loves. Less frequent than heat but similarly intense.
A Note on Variation
No two Omegaverse worlds are identical. Some settings add knot-less Alphas, packs and territories, or entirely different fertility rules. Treat this guide as a common starting point, not a fixed law.
